Role in ecoDriver:

BMW Group Research and Technology is leading and coordinating the Sub-Project on evaluating the effectiveness, is part of the core group and therefore has two distinct roles: management and research. BMW will contribute to the whole project with an eco-application as well as on dissemination and exploitation activities.

The ecoDriver consortium offers BMW Group the opportunity to share views, requirements and concepts regarding the field of green driving to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It also gives the opportunity to support map database suppliers in developing new methods of dynamic data capturing, dynamic extending data formats, and obtaining feedback through real-life experience with the BMW prototype application eCoDriver Assistant (eCA). As Sub-Project leader of the “Evaluation of Effectiveness” BMW Group will bring in its profound expertise on ADAS applications with acceptance and compliance knowledge connected to navigation systems and Car2X communication into the project. BMW Group will demonstrate the complete chain of the eCoDriver Assistant application to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The BMW application eCoDriver Assistant will be done together with the ecoDriver partners with a range of improvements in green driving technologies. The results of the ecoDriver project will provide viable information for BMW Group that will be used internally for product development and product planning. 

Other projects (related to ecoDriver):

BMW Group Research and Technology is involved in eCoMove which is a 3-years Integrated Project starting in April 2010. This project aims at integrating driver support, fleet management and traffic management based on vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication (or so called “cooperative systems”) in order to improve energy efficiency and cut down CO2 emissions by 20%.

BMW Group also acts as a partner responsible for eco applications in numerous EC-funded R&D projects, including NextMAP, ActMAP, FeedMAP, Prevent, interactive, etc.
