Short overview of the organisation:

Centro Ricerche FIAT S.C.p.A. (CRF) was established in 1976 to enable the innovation, research and development needs of the FCA Group to be satisfied. With a full-time workforce of more than 850 trained professionals, CRF offers a wide range of technical competencies and is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories for the testing of powertrains, electro-magnetic compatibility, experimental noise and vibration analysis, driving simulation and virtual reality, in addition to facilities for the development of new materials and manufacturing processes, opto-electronics and micro-technologies.

Role in ecoDriver:

CRF role in the project is to:

  • Cooperate in the preparation of the evaluation plan;
  • Conduct evaluation studies on eco-driving feedbacks and incentives with different HMIs both in CRF Virtual Driving Simulator and with real vehicles in real test drive;
  • Contribute to the evaluation of results in real and simulated scenarios;
  • Implement the selected HMI solution for eco-driving in cars and integrate on board data logging for testing;
  • Contribute to the specification of the detailed experimental protocol for testing;
  • Plan and conduct testing in Italy with FCA vehicles;
  • Contribute to the definition of the assessment protocols and indicators;
  • Evaluate the impact on driving, on safety and environment and estimate the acceptance of the ecoDriver solutions, through the ergonomic experts analysis of information and data derived from the field trials.

Other projects (related to ecoDriver):

CRF has been involved in the European projects eCoMove, COSMO and FOT-NET.

eCoMove is an Integrated Project which aims at integrating driver support, fleet management and traffic management based on cooperative systems in order to improve energy efficiency and cut down CO2 emissions by 20%.

COSMO aims to install and run practical demonstrations of a range new services based on  cooperative systems  in realistic conditions, in order to produce quantified results of the impact in terms of consumption and CO2 emissions and to develop specifications in different areas (technical, legal, organizational) for the deployment of these systems.

FOT-NET provides methodological support for the test phase of ecoDriver.
