With the arrival of the new year, an exciting final quarter begins for the ecoDriver project. In the coming three months, the focus will be on the results of the evaluation of effectiveness of the eco-driving systems developed and tested, as well as on the project's Final Event.

The ecoDriver project acknowledges the benefits of eco-driving in terms of fuel consumption, emissions and safety. Although eco-driving training is available, drivers tend to return to their old driving style when left on their own and they may not be able to apply eco-driving tricks if they are unfamiliar with a particular road. The ecoDriver project has worked on addressing this issue by developing and testing a range of systems to support the driver.

IFSTTAR is now leading the evaluation of the field trials in terms of fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, driver acceptance, and comparison of the effectiveness of nomadic and integrated eco-driving devices. The results will be unveiled in March, at the ecoDriver Final Event.

It will be held on 16-17 March 2016 at the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart (Germany). The event will feature keynote addresses from Christian Ballarin (Daimler Trucks),  Hermann Meyer (ERTICO – ITS Europe), Taco van der Leij (TomTom Telematics) and Luisa Andreone (CRF).

Project partners will highlight the project’s achievements from technical, user-oriented and policy viewpoints. Panel discussions and audience participation will provide opportunities to discuss the project’s implications and future prospects.

Seven vehicles (six cars and a truck) will be available to demonstrate the different systems on public around Stuttgart, some of which participants will be able to drive. Finally, participants will have the opportunity to visit the Mercedes Benz Museum after the closure of the final event.
